NEW DUTCH TOLL SERVICE – LAUNCHING JULY 2026
From July 2026, a toll will be charged for all trucks over 3.5 tons on Dutch highways and selected roads.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE DUTCH TOLL SYSTEM
Starting July 2026, the Netherlands will implement a new truck toll system covering all major highways and selected roads.
- EETS-compliant: Use your existing EETS provider for seamless toll payments.
- Eurovignette abolished: The current Eurovignette system will no longer apply.
- Updated network and tariffs: Toll rates depend on vehicle type, weight, and emission class.

ON THESE ROADS YOU WILL PAY TRUCK TOLL
The truck toll is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026, coinciding with the end of the Eurovignette in the Netherlands. From that date, the motor vehicle tax for Dutch trucks will be reduced to a minimum.
Our map shows all tolled highways and selected secondary roads.
HOW THE DUTCH TRUCK TOLL WORKS
Similar to neighboring countries, both Dutch and foreign truck owners will pay a per-kilometre rate, with lower emissions resulting in lower rates. The toll will cover almost all motorways as well as several main provincial and municipal roads. The truck toll is charged per kilometre driven. To determine how much you will have to pay, you will need the following information:
- Technical maximum weight
The technical maximum mass is the maximum mass that a vehicle with its load may weigh according to the manufacturer. The vehicle is designed and built for this maximum mass.
The truck toll applies to Dutch and foreign trucks. These are vehicles in category N2 and N3. They are made to carry goods and have a technical maximum weight of more than 3,500 kg.
Truck categories:
- N2: Trucks with a technical maximum weight of more than 3,500 kg and up to and including 12,000 kg.
- N3: Trucks with a technical maximum mass of more than 12,000 kg or more.
- CO2 emission class
- Sometimes the euro emission class

DISPENSATION AND EXEMPTION
If your truck is older than 40 years you may be eligible to apply for a dispensation. Police and fire trucks can also qualify. Once your application is approved, you won’t need to pay the truck toll.
In some cases, exemptions apply automatically. For example, electric trucks and vans up to 4,250 kg with a Dutch registration number are exempt by default.
TOLL4EUROPE IS YOUR PERFECT SUPPORT FOR THE NEW DUTCH TRUCK TOLLING
To pay truck toll, you need a provider like Toll4Europe to handle it for you. We provide the on-board equipment required for trucks, called an On Board Unit (OBU). The OBU tracks how many kilometres your truck drives on tolled roads. Every truck must have one on board.
The Toll4Europe OBU determines where your truck is driving using satellite navigation (GPS). It then sends this data to Toll4Europe, which calculates the number of kilometres driven on tolled roads.
Important in the Netherlands is, that the OBU is always turned on – even on roads where there is no truck toll. Only when the truck is parked it can be switched off.
